This week we worked on taking portraits and learned about how lighting affects a photo. This was one of my first experiences with a camera We also learned about California's peon class during the Great Depression. During the week, in groups of three or four, we took portraits of each other and experimented with different lighting. Humanities- In Humanities we read John Steinbeck's Harvest Gypsies and wrote a short response essay answering the question: Do we need a Peon Class. If you would like to see this essay click the link below. Due to President Trumps recent policy changes, we designed t-shirts in protest. I did this with a group of three people and we may get it printed. I really liked this mini project because I'm really interested in politics and how our government is run and don't think that we talk about it in schools enough. Chemistry-
We examined the chemical construction of the silver printing chemicals. I noticed that the arrow connecting the equation means equals sign. I think that this equation means that you could switch the chemical ordering and will still get the same thing. From this hypothesis I conclude that you can make the emulsion. Chemical equation- AgNO3 + NaCl = NaNO3 + AgCl Portraits- We took these portraits with a group of three or four and with a professional lighting setup. I am still very new to photography so seeing the professional lighting setup and being able to use was a truly influential experience. During this process, we learned about different types of lighting and how lighting affects the final photo. These two pictures are of the same shot, one in black and white and one in color. I didn't actually take the first set of photos because I am the model but the second set of pictures are of ones that I took of one of my partners Misael.

I was only in school Friday so I didn't learn a lot but I did learn about lab safety and looking at pictures through lenses. In chemistry we made posters with partners about a specific rule in chemistry class. These rules are implemented to keep us safe during dangerous lab experiments. Using this information that we learned, our class broke up into individual groups and made posters about a lab rule that was assigned to us. In Humanities we looked at pictures through lenses that we wouldn't normally look through. We also watched the presidential inauguration of Donald Trump and discussed it afterward. I thought that the way that the discussion went was very interesting the consensus being against the new president elect. I found it kind of hard to voice any opinion that was against the consensus because I felt that I would be scrutinized by my classmates for doing so. Humanities: I was not here for most of the week so I didn't take any pictures. Next week I will make sure to take pictures and share them on this blog. The Caucasian girl that is yelling at the African- American girl is angry because the idea or "colored people" going to an "all white' school was foreign to her. Change is really hard for people especially when you live your whole life believing and hearing one thing and then wake up one day and something that totally contradicts that belief is actually happening. In this case the Caucasian female has lived her whole life with "white bathrooms" and "colored bathrooms", "white schools" and "colored schools" and to wake up one day to find that the border dividing two cultures all of a sudden are gone, would be a huge change. The Caucasian women doesn't want change because it means that her beliefs in segregation which have been reality for all of her life has been overruled and a new "norm" has been implemented. Even though I don't agree with this young lady, I do see why she is angry. If I was brainwashed my whole life into thinking that a group of people were disgusting human beings and one day I was told that I had to interact with them, I would be pretty mad too. Chemistry: My partners and I made this poster to demonstrate one of our lab rules. The lab rule is, No one is allowed in the laboratory during experiments other then class members. This rule has been implemented to keep us safe during labs. This rule will ensure that the lab is organised so that we don't have random people walking in and outside the classroom while doing labs.
